John Lewis CANDLELIGHT VIGIL - GOOD TROUBLE LIVES ON
Clarence F. Buckingham Memorial Fountain
301 S Columbus Dr
Chicago IL 60605
Friday, July 17
6:30 – 8:30pm CDT
John Lewis told us “Never let anyone – any person or any force - dampen, dim or diminish your light” On July 17-19, people here in Chicago, and all across the country will be coming together to show that the fight for voting rights continues.
Right now, some politicians and their billionaire friends are doing everything they can to restrict our most basic right–the right to vote. They’re putting up barriers to voting, from the Supreme Court decision to gut the Voting Rights Act of 1965, to purging voters from voter rolls across America, to the recent FBI raids on the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, an organization simply helping Ohioans register to vote. This is an affront to our democracy.
Please join us here in Chicago for the John Lewis Candlelight Vigil on Friday, July 17 as we kick off the weekend of action, honoring him and his commitment to voting rights.
There will also be events throughout the weekend that make it clear we’re staying in “good trouble” and "necessary trouble” as we work for justice. Click HERE to see voter registration and other voting-related events scheduled on July 18th and 19th across the city. Please help us publicize these! Encourage anyone you know who needs to register to vote or to check their registration by calling 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683).
