Ensure CPD Officers Comply with Orders

At the citywide Commission’s public meeting on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Kennedy- King College, the Commission will continue the discussion about policing activities when immigration enforcement is happening on the ground across the city. The CPD Superintendent, COPA Chief Administrator, and Inspector General are expected to participate in the meeting.

Options for providing comments to the Commission and the Councils:

  • during a meeting in person or on Zoom, sign in and hope to be chosen to speak in the meeting lottery;

  • at an in person meeting turn in written comment to the staff;

  • always by email to CommunityCommissionPublicComment@cityofchicago.org

  • through your district commissioners–again at public meetings, on Zoom, or by email, check each district for details on how to communicate.

Many Chicago residents feel threatened and disrespected by the various federal agents acting in Chicago and other cities, and those agents have done nothing to earn our trust.

Their actions in other cities and the threat that they will return in force to Chicago means that we should make sure that Chicago police officers are clear about their role.

This month, CCPSA will have a panel discussion and take questions about the interaction between federal agents, including ICE agents, the residents of Chicago, and Chicago police officers.

The CCPSA and the individual district councils will also accept input, either in writing or in person.

At CWTA we want to ensure that the role of CPD is to ensure resident safety and First Amendment rights.

I encourage Chicago police officers to...

Use the de-escalation techniques with Federal agents as well as with residents protesting.

Why? De-escalation reduces use of force, prevents injury, and improves both officer and community safety.

Warn federal agents when they use tactics that CPD would not use. It is appropriate for CPD to push back and remind the federal agents that proper law enforcement does not work like that.

Why? CPD hasn’t found it necessary to use tear gas since 2020; why allow outside law enforcement to use it?

Model professional behavior.

Why? CPD officers do not hide their faces and their stars, they wear them proudly and stand by their actions. Please don't support outsiders who hide themselves and behave dangerously.

Align themselves with Chicago residents rather than with “fellow law enforcement officers."

Why? Residents will respect and appreciate CPD officers who are fair and responsible guardians of our city.
