STOP the SAVE Act // SAVE 2.0
The so-called “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” (SAVE) Act passed the U.S. House by a slim margin in the 119th Congress. After getting stalled in the Senate for the remainder of the year, Congressional Republicans recently relaunched efforts to advance the SAVE Act, now under new names, but with the same policy implications: blocking millions of eligible voters from participating in upcoming elections.
If passed by the Senate, SAVE would require all eligible Americans to present proof of citizenship, such as a passport or an original copy of their birth certificate, when registering to vote. The problem is that millions of U.S. citizens lack ready access to those documents.
SAVE 2.0 Bills - House Republicans relaunched efforts to advance the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (or the so-called SAVE Act). This time, with two new iterations on that legislation (the Make Elections Great Again Act (MEGA) and the Save America Act). While under new names, these new bills are part of the same effort by Republican members of Congress to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters from participating in upcoming elections. At the same time, State-level SAVE Act copycat bills are spreading fast. Just like the federal bill, they threaten to block eligible votes.
The SAVE Act, SAVE 2.0, and state copycat bills would impact all of us, but would be especially burden military voters, tribal voters, rural voters, survivors of natural disasters, communities of color, and the tens of millions of married women in America who have changed their names. So we’re urging Senators to vote NO on the SAVE Act.
We need your help to stop the dangerous SAVE Act from passing the U.S. Senate.
Congressional Republicans announced plans to renew their efforts to pass the anti-voter SAVE Act, even going so far as to introduce new SAVE Act bills under new names, essentially SAVE 2.0.
But we’re not fooled by this latest attempt to trick us into making it harder for millions of eligible voters to cast their ballot. To stop this bill in its tracks, we need to flood the phone lines of our Senators with our vocal opposition to SAVE and SAVE 2.0.
Email your Member of Congress today and tell them to vote NO on the SAVE Act!
