TAKE ACTION OPPOSING THE FEDERAL JUDICIAL NOMINATION OF JOSH DIVINE, MARIA LANAHAM, CRISTIAN M. STEVENS and ZACHARY BLUESTONE to lifetime appointments to the Federal Judiciary.
THE ISSUE: All four of these Trump nominees have expressed right-wing ideology in their legal work and lack experience and an understanding of the need to judiciously separate politics from justice.
Divine advocated that we return to literacy tests for voters while in college and does not have the minimal 12 years of legal experience to be a judge. Lanaham, as MO Principal Deputy Solicitor General, sued the Biden administration on the implementation of COVID-19 mandates as well as arguing against voters’ challenges to MO’s redistricting plans. Stevens demonstrated racial bias in a law review article on crack cocaine sentencing and dissented in a case in a case where the majority reversed a lower court judgement under the Human Rights Act. Bluestone worked under then MO Attorney General Josh Hawley to limit federal regulation and interference. He, like Divine, lacks the 12 years of legal experience suggested for a lifetime appointment to the federal judiciary. None of these nominees reflect the high qualifications needed for the federal courts.
HOW TO TAKE ACTION:
Call Senator Durbin at: 202-224-2152, and Senator Duckworth at: 202-224-2854, or the Capitol Switchboard at: 202-224-3121, if you are from out of state (and ask for your Senators’ offices). Here’s the message to deliver:
Hello, I am a constituent of the Senator, calling because I oppose the nominations of Josh Divine, Maria Lanaham, Cristian Stevens and Zachary Bluestone to lifetime appointments to the Federal Judiciary. They all bring records that raise question about their qualifications and experience. They are clearly not qualified for seats on any federal court, certainly not for lifetime appointments. I want my Senator to vote NO on these nominations and urge his/her Senate colleagues to join him/her in opposing these distinctly unqualified candidates. Thank you.
Take Action Together!
